Question Opening Tools-Internet Options while in IE I find no General tab.
I know it was there a few days ago but it's gone now. Scanned for everything I could think of but no change.

Dell 8100
WinXP Pro SP2
512 memory
Intel CPU 2.60
300 G HD

Have you run virus scans since noticing this? Adware? Spybot? HijackThis?
Ironbender
Also, have you tried a system restore ?

Note that some tweaking or spyware protection programs (like TweakUi and Spybot) may prevent you to change this.

If you have not tweaked/protected, and your start page is changed to any unknown site, it's a malware/virus.

I have tried all of the above without success. Restore has same problem, no general section.

Ok... so we will presume that it's a malware/virus infection.

First, perform a complete housecall online virus check from http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Then, post a HijackThis log here, as someone may take a look on it and guide you ahead. Please take a look at this pinned topic if you are unsure on how to do that: http://www.suggestafix.com/index.php?act=S...ST&f=15&t=16053

why not look at a simple solution first... if this fixes it, but then it reverts we know its spyware/virii....

START > RUN > regedit (hit enter)

Click on HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
policies
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
Control Panel.

(default) REG_SZ
Programs Tab_REG-DWRORD
General Tab REG-DWORD - should read 0x00000000 (0) if that data has a 1 instead of a 0, change it back to 0

Right click on General Tab > modify, select Hexadecimal, reboot

Thanks for all of your suggestions, unfortunately none worked.

Started deleting programs sure enough it was caused by a program that I installed, don't know which one as I was deleting in mass.

Never delete programs. You must uninstall them from Control Panel/Add-remove programs, or you will soon be in big troubles with your system, including the one you are having with your screen/cursor on this thread... http://www.suggestafix.com/index.php?act=S...=43&t=18138&hl=

A System restore should work, try another restore point.
