I am concerned that my processor is running too hot, because SpeedFan shows it with the flame icon! eeeeek.gif

Intel P4 3.4ghz 64bit
1 gig ram

When the processor is a full load (100% processor usage) for a few minutes, the temperature peeks out at 135 F, or 57.5 C.

Lately i've been doing batch conversions of large AVI files to MPEG-2, and my processor works at 100% for a few hours straight (overnight). The "mean/avg" temp is about 135 F, or 57.5 C.

(At idle, i'm getting around 110F / 43C.)

Should I be concerned?

Thanks!

Hi John,

It's slightly hot, but nothing that can harm it biggrin.gif

You may try some things to drop down the temps...

1 - Optimize the inside case airflow by rearranging the cables in it, as they stay out the theorical air flow.
2 - Move the hottest cards to the top, the coldest to the bottom of the tower.
3 - Replace the cooling CPU fan by one which runs at 6~7000 rpm (it's cheap and works fine).

Also, you can add an extra fan into the case, blowing fresh air from outside to inside.

Last, you can open a blowhole on the left (top) cover, as I did on mine (-5oC).

Chris,

Yes, you showed me your blow hole in a previous thread! Before doing that to my new case, i think i'll see if it makes a difference if i just take the side off. Can't get a larger hole than that!

Well, if you say it can't "harm" the cpu at that temp, then my mind will be at ease. By the way, my processor is still at 100% power for 10 hours now... lots of video conversions. I was worried, but now i think i'm ok.

I will, however, check out a higher speed cpu fan. Sounds like a good idea. I just hope it's not louder than what i currently have. My pc really has some noisy fans!
