HELP !!

Boy where do I start , so much for helping a frined with his desktop and laptop which are both using
a wireless router (SMC) -

I reinstalled windows XP Home Edition on the desktop, load and installed windows security, Norton Antivirus , ect.. All was fine. I was able to connect to the internet just fine. Ni problems.

The laptop the same thing, I was able to connected using the build in wireless connection. I changed the
wireless config to be encrypted has he was complaining that his next door so called friend was stilling his
internet. So I made sure that both were sending/receiving packets.
All was fine and clean and working great until, until he asked me to make sure his laptop can print and share files from his desktop -
Well, I made sure both had a name and used the same workgroup. I used the setup wizard for home and office network. That's when evberything kind of fell aprt - I tried system restore on both for many days and no changes.

I might of damaged something in the registries or network because now, either one can connect to teh internet. In fact, the wilress connection states that it cannot find any network connection - WHAT ????

Go over my desktop, I can't get any IE . WOW ~!! what have I done ? All I wanted to do is make sure both
can see each other on the internet so I can share the printer and some files.
Boy oh boy I messed up big times . I feel so bad for my friend ..

Both computers run Windows XP Home Edition - I pluggged the desktop straigh to the modem bypassing the router and was able to get on the internet.

When I connect using the SMC wirless router, I don't get any internet connection. In fact, when I try to connect, I get a web signon window, ( https://radon.bc.tac.net/cgi-bin/oca2.cgi - ) the one from my ISP (Telus) provider when I want to register my modem,router or PC to the server provider. Strange enough, when I connect a straight cable(by passing wireless) from the port 2 form the SMC router to the network connect at the back of the laptop, I get a signon widow to logon, as if I asked it to go to the Telus web server and register my devices.(modem,router,ect)

I get that window when I try to connect to the internet..?

I reset the router a few times along with my 3Com modem (Using DSL Telus being my ISP priovider)

I need to know if I need to register both my modem (LAN ADDY) & router to my ISP ?
I registered by connecting to https://radon.bc.tac.net and signing on to my account - Once I've connected I get the choice to as follow:

I trried manualy put the router's LAN address and Modem Address - Still no go .

tThe router is a SMC . I'm lost and would like some help please . Why after all it was working fine and than
turn around and setup a netowrk connection and have 2 computers share on the internet and than lose everything .. I did a system restore on both and same thing...

Hi Mysons,

After reinstalling, have you reloaded the proper motherboard, chipset, videocard, monitor AND lan car drivers ? (I always insist on that, because Windows generic ones may not work properly on all hardware).

If you are using anti-virus or firewall (or both), try disabling them one at a time. It's incredible how those softwares can mess with th internet access, mostly by conflicting.

Some ISP attribs a fixed IP address, so, if you try with random ones, it will never work. You may ask to your ISP if there is a static IP or random one.

Also, every machine on the network may have individual IP addresses on the network, as Win XP random ones (conflicting with others) may freeze the whole lan.
