Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Hawking broadband router and it's connected to a desktop computer inside a house. I'm parked in a motorhome outside the house and I have the router hooked up to a hi gain antenna which gives me a great signal inside my motorhome out in the yard. To further increase range and signal strength I also have a Hawking directional antenna PC card in the laptop. Have disabled the built in wireless stuff inside the laptop as the directional antenna PC card gives me stronger signal.

I have really good internet signal strength and can surf the net to my hearts content but for the life of me I cannot secure my signal. I have my IP address but cannot access the setup or configuration page. This is the second time I haven't been able to access a config page when trying to set up a wireless router. I initially had a D-Link but returned that and decided to go with the Hawking brand as my 2 antennas were Hawking and I was very happy with those so I thought it would be best all around if I have the same brand for all 3 pieces of equipment being the broadband router, hi gain antenna (to replace the weaker antennas on the router) and the antenna PC card in the laptop.

Can anyone tell me how I can secure my wave length or signal or whatever you call it? I really don't want to have a public Hot Spot floating around out there.

With both the D-link and the Hawking I got to a password protect section once only and didn't understand what all the alphabetical lettered options meant so I thought I'd give the password a miss until I learnt more about which options to click OK on but when I try to go back to setup a password or even the more complex WEP security I can't get back to the 192.168. etc etc router IP page.

Any help in setting up security for my system would be greatly appreciated.

PS perhaps navigation to a dictionary of wireless terminologies would be helpful too. smiley- yes.gif
