Hello all smile.gif Been a while since I have posted here but that usually means everything is good on the computer front! But anyway, here is my new problem.

I would like to know how to re-do a network that has 2 computers on it? Somehow everytime I start my while the wife's is running, I get a message that says there is a duplicate name on the network. Now I do not know how that got there but it has caused the network to not work. I am unable to share files or the printer. This is most likely not hard to fix but I do not want to mess anything up while "feeling" my way around it. I did set it up all and it worked fine for the longest time and boom, one day I got that message.

Any help would be much appreciated!! Thank you

Hi Nyboel,

You'll have to name both computers with different names and the same workgroup name. Default workgroup is MSHOME, but I suggest you to create your own group name when running the network wizard. On the same wizard, there is a field to name the computer.

It's also possible that you'll have to attrib static IPs for both computers, instead of letting Windows attrib random ones, as this may cause conflicts and crash the network.

After doing that, you must define what folders may be shared on both computers, by richt clicking on the folders and setting them as "shared".

To share the printer, you'll need to install the proper MS file and printer sharing service on your network properties, and, of course, the TCP/IP protocol. To install a shared printer, go to printers menu, install a new shared printer and you are done.

Post back if you need more detailed instructions.

Mi no comprende de espanol smile.gif But I think i get the gist of it.

So I will create a new network? Will the other one still be there or will it get deleted? Also, will I have to re-do the share printer option as well? The files are already there for it, just have to set it up again which wasn't hard. My computers have set IP's already smile.gif Thanx for the suggestion though.

Sorry, my OS is in Brazilian Portuguese lol.gif

As far as I know, running the network wizard again will overwrite the previous settings... You can also edit the current ones, but I do not remember where to rename the computers and the group on XP (my network was Win98 and ME just some months ago).

Feel free to ask anything else if you need biggrin.gif

Worked like a charm smile.gif It deleted the old network out when I made the new one. I had to delete out the old printer drivers to even though I installed the same ones...lol. All set now though. Thanx for the help Iron!
