I have a Dlink wireless 604+ DSl router, 2 PC will be conected straigh cable, the other wireless.

i want to be able to share the one printer on my host computer HP Laserjet - I will named it - PCHOST

The rest of my computers were named - PCNORTH, PCSOUTH & PCWEST -

I want also be able to share files between the computers and able to see all 4 PCs on my network since I will be installing Quickbooks on all 4PC and would like to use the same data and be able to update/modify from any of the 4 computers.

Can it be done and how please. I have everything ready , just need some step/step info and how to guide from the experts @ SUGGESTAFIX - thanks.gif

Hi Rocko,

Your computers will only see others if you share the proper folders on each. You can share all disk or just some folders by right-clicking on them and selecting properties/sharing.

To share a printer, you must add Printer and file sharing on your computer's lan properties, install the local printer on PCHOST and the lan/shared printers on all other machines.

Also, all computers on your network must belong to the same group, like PCLAN or something like this.

I do not know Quickbooks, and am not sure this soft can work/share data on a network, but will scout around on this.

smiley- thumb up.gif Thanks Ironbender !!

Can you tell me how I can make the computer see the other computes on the network ?

Do I need to modify some settings on each computer so that the network sees my PCHOSt and PCNORTH, PCSOUTH , ect .

I can I make sure the printer is sharable on all 4 computers.
Sorry, I might sound dumb but I need to make sure I'm doing the right think.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Cheers !

PS: I'm not so worried abiut the quickbooks for now as I can call the company and talk to one of their
support team.
I just want to be able to share the printer and share the files/folders. What is the proper way ?

Ok,
This will be quite difficult to me, as my whole system is in Brazilian Portuguese and I may have some problems translating it properly eeeeek.gif

So, here are generic hints and a resource link.

On the "Local connection" properties, each computer must have some services and protocols installed. You probably have used the connection wizard to set your network, as you said you named them.

You must have the "printer and file sharing" service and the TCP/IP protocols installed, as shown below:

Each computer may have its own IP address on the network, although Windows XP may attrib random IP addresses, this may cause the network to hang or crash if different OS/Systems are in use at the same time, so I prefer to attrib one IP address to each comp:

All computers on your network may belong to the same workgroup. Windows default is MSHOME, but I recommend that you change it on all systems to another name.

On each computer of your network, you must select the folders that others will be able to see, right-clicking on them and allowing sharing properties and permissions. Sharing a root folder (like C:\) will cause the entire HD to be seen and shared by other computers.

Here is a Microsoft detailed resource to help you on network settings:
