Hi hardtimes,

I've created a folder named "Installers", on which I store all handy programs. Once you have the installers saved on your HD, there is no problems on copy them to a CD using your burner software, just like any other stuff, like music, images, and so on...

hardtimes,

ASSUMING you have a CD-RW drive [a CD burner] here is a more step-by-step procedure.

1) Download the firewall onto your desktop.

2) Put a CD-R into drive and start your "CD burner" software.

3) Select "Create a data disk" and look for firewall listing on desktop.

4) Use the appilcable procedure for your software to "burn" firewall onto CD.

NOTE: Because I have copies of Win98SE on three different hard drives, I use this procedure a lot.
I download onto one drive then use the CD copy to install on other drives.

Thanks for the info both of you. smile.gif I was just wondering what I should do with all these antispyware programs that I downloaded if my computer ever got messed up again and I had to format and reinstall. smiley- confused.gif worm.gif

Jeannie,

Since your interested, here's some more detail.

You can save ALL the freeware you download this way. I am using Nero software which leaves the CD "open" so I can add to it.

I label a CD "Spybot" or "AdAware", etc... and keep adding each new version to the CD.

I also have a lot of "odds & ends" freeware on my desktop and I copy all of them to a CD and label it "Reinstall"

NOTE: Make sure you get the ACTUAL program NOT the "shortcut" on the desktop.

I download to the desktop so I can screen it with my AntiVir program to be sure I have a "clean" copy.
Also do any "unzipping", if necessary.

Thanks oldbob for the additional info. It is very helpful. smiley- thumb up.gif I checked to see what CD-burning software I have on this computer and I notice that I have Record Now. How do I keep a CD open so that I can add to it? smiley- confused.gif Does the software have a setting that does that? unsure.gif

Jeannie,

I only record with CD-Rs which I buy "on sale" for about 19¢ each.

My "original" CD burner [which was a couple of years ago] was an LG brand, it came with Roxio software which [if I remember correctly] you had to close the CD-R to get the drive tray to extend.

When the LG failed. I replaced it with a Sony. I liked the Roxio software so much I tried to continue using it, but it just didn't "work right" with the Sony.
I installed the Nero Express 6 that came with the Sony and found that I liked it "even better".

After you finish "burning" the CD, Nero has a window that "pops up" with question "Close CD - Yes No". Frankly, I never heard of "Record Now", but next time you burn a CD read the "options" carefully and check out any available buttons. Maybe someone else can add to Record Now knowledge.
