Full Version: "System" process hangs PC in Games

Hello everyone,
I have just installed RAID 0 on my system with a clean install of Windows XP Professional. I installed the motherboard drivers and the video card drivers and all other drivers a system might need. I find that whenever i run anything that requires the usage of my graphics card (ATI Radeon X700 Pro) the "System" process jumps to 100% and causes the graphics video to jump at certain intervals. It acts like the CPU is trying to process all of the graphics itself!! (looks like the 3dmark benchmarks when processing only w/ cpu).
On my other hard drive, I also have XP installed (dual boot system), and all of the same drivers are used there without a Microsoft problem. Any idea on why Windows is trying to process all grahical data rather than send it on to the GPU?

Hi wizard, welcome to SAF

Sounds like you have not loaded the chipset drivers to me (I may be wrong on that, but it's a very common issue). Services loading at startup may also slow down your system.

If you are using an AGP videocard, try setting your BIOS AGP aperture size to another value.

Please post back.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have installed the chipset drivers. It is a PCI Express video card. I just wiped the RAID drives clean and reinstalled windows on them. I carefully noted what i installed in what order just now. I installed the chipset drivers first, restarted, then installed the audio and video, restarted, then installed directx, restarted, then installed an ati screen saver to test it and it does teh same thing. My other hard drive is still set up with the same hardware and drivers and it runs games and other 3d apps fine. I am clueluess to what the problem might be, and i had a job fixing computers.

Hi again,
I disabled every service on the system and tried the screensaver and found that i needed some to play it.
Then i enabled a bunch of ones i thiough might have been important and then tried teh screen saver and it plays fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried to enter device manager but when i right click My computer and hit properties nothing opens......I will play w/ the services more. Thanks for the suggestion
