Full Version: Can not play .mpg movies after codec screw-up

I tried to install a comprehensive codec package so that I could play some random video file I downloaded. When I saw that it was a problem with the actual video file and not my codecs, I uninstalled the codec package. Now I can play only movies in formats such as .wmv , .avi, .mov however anything that is .mpg will NOT play. The sound will play and it will display the first frame. That's it.

I tried all sorts of .mpg files that used to be playable on my computer. I trued winAmp and WMP. I even upgraded WMP to the latest version. I called support and they said to reinstall windows... that seems like too strong of an action to take considering it's probably only a codec problem. What do you think?
Thank You!

Hi pod12054, welcome to SAF

I think youl'd better download and reinstall Windows Media Player before, as it will reinstall all the proper codecs.

If you have a restore point before you first installed the codec package, you may also try it.

You'll find just about every codec, either in multi-packs or singly, HERE.
