My neighbor asked me to look at her computer which takes a freakin huge amount of time to open anything. I just don't know what to do to help. I ran her virus software and she had nothing, I ran Spybot and cleaned up what that found and then I told her to download ad-aware and run that as well. I downloaded HJT and copied this log - is there anything that is wrong and what else should I be looking for?

Thanks

Hi dliz908,

While waiting for a HJT skilled member to analyze your log, it will not hurt if you run a housecall online vireus check.
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Chris

dliz908
No virus's found - Can't figure out what the problem is. Her CPU usage is at 100% while mine is at about 11%....is there something running in the background that is doing this?
HKEd
Hi dliz908...there are some baddies showing. It'll take me about 15 minutes to analyse your log, if you want to hang around.
HKEd
Symantec has a removal tool for one of the worms. Download it from here and follow the instructions for using it on that page.

After rebooting, run another HijackThis scan and post a fresh log so we can deal with the other infections.
dliz908
Running that FixEsbot has helped a lot already...CPU is down in the 60-70% range and pages are starting to load better

Here is the new Hijack this log:

Well, that's one out of the way, but some other adware is on there now.

Download and install AdAware SE Personal. Check for updates after installation, but don't use it yet.

Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall Internet Optimizer and SideFind if it's listed. Do not reboot if prompted after the uninstall.

Open the Task Manager and click on the Processes tab. End Process on these in turn:

C:\WINNT\netinfo.exe

C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer\optimize.exe

C:\WINNT\system32\updates.pif

C:\WINNT\system32\updates.pif

Terminate both intstances of updates.pif.

Close all open windows and run a HijackThis scan. Put checks in the boxes next to these lines:

Click on 'Fix checked'.

Boot to safe mode.

Make all files and folders visible:

QUOTE
    * Open My Computer.
    * Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
    * Select the View Tab.
    * Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
    * Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    * Click Yes to confirm.
    * Click OK.

Locate and delete these files:

C:\WINNT\system32\13.tmp

C:\Program Files\Internet Optimizer

updates.pif

C:\WINNT\netinfo.exe

Run a full system scan with AdAware. Have it delete anything found.

Boot to normal mode and post back with a fresh HJT log.
HKEd
If you need instructions on getting to safe mode, there's only one way with Win2000:

QUOTE
1.  Restart the computer.
2.  When you see the black-and-white Starting Windows bar at the bottom of the screen, start tapping the F8 key.
3.  In the Windows 2000 Advanced Options Menu, select Safe mode if it is not selected.
If it is not selected, use the arrow keys to select it.
4.  Press Enter.
dliz908
So far it looks a lot faster....I did everything you said and also stopped a lot of things from auto-starting from the start menu.

Please let me know if there is anything else that should be done.

Thanks so much for all your help.

Liz
