Hi coSTAR,
QUOTE
This is strange because i haven't downloaded anything gor ages...

This does not means anything, as you can get virus from websites, images, external disks/CDs and mostly from mail.

I can't see anything wrong in your log, but I strongly recommend you to wait for HKEd, Angoid or some more skilled member to take a look on it, as I am not a specialist on this matter rolleyes.gif

Chris

coSTAR
oh... well in that case... lol maybe i have. I've been on the net and recently copied a CD onto my comp...

Ok, i'll do that.

Cheers Chris
HKEd
Hi coSTAR...I don't see much, but some of the newer stuff is not detected by HJT. What does McAfee report the infection is and what's the file name?

Do you know what this is?

O4 - Global Startup: setup_pcc.lnk = C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Desktop\wsc-en-pcc2005-1244-041028\Setup\setup.exe

It looks like a setup file for Pc-Cillin antivirus.

Download SilentRunners and run it. It may take a couple of minutes to complete the log file, even though the log is visible. Just let it run. A complete log will show the time taken to run it at the bottom of the log. It will show us if anything malicious is hiding.
coSTAR
Erm, i'm not sure what the virus was but it said something about being in the java file. But when i did a scan the second time after it had told me i had a virus it found nothing.

I'm not sure what that file is, if it is PC-Cillin that would be very strange as we've never downloaded it biggrin.gif

I'll just download that program now and post you the results.

Thanks for your time and help.

Hi coSTAR...the log is clean. This file is missing:

O4 - Global Startup: setup_pcc.lnk = C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Desktop\wsc-en-pcc2005-1244-041028\Setup\setup.exe

Just fix it in HJT.

QUOTE
it said something about being in the java file.

It's quite common for little pieces of malware to be in the Java cache. Go to Control Panel and see if there's a Java Plugin applet there. Click on it and then on the Cache tab, then click on 'Clear'.
coSTAR
Thanks HKEd

I cleared the java program.

That file:

O4 - Global Startup: setup_pcc.lnk = C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\Desktop\wsc-en-pcc2005-1244-041028\Setup\setup.exe

I thought you wanted it deleted so i got rid of it with HJT lol.gif

Thanks very much for your help - its always nice to find a new way to clean your computer. I'll clean the java thing on a regular basis now. thank you smiley- thumb up.gif

Hey Guys,

I just ran that "Silent Runners - Rev. 40" and -- NOTHING HAPPENED !!!

Does this mean I am "clean" or doesn't Silent Runners work with Win98SE ??
Ironbender
Hi oldbob,

I can not run this on my system either... for some unknown reason, it simply does nothing (no log, no report, no disk access) rolleyes.gif
Just click on it and... nothing happens.

Chris
