I bought 2 microsoft mn100 routers and tried to connect them to each other in order to use both for all our computers. The second router can't seem to connect, yet the hub I use works fine.
Here's the set up:
-Router 1 is connected to the modem and works fine.
-Router 2 is connected to router 1 and can't find a signal (but the hub I use in its place works fine.
Is there something special I have to do to get a connection on the 2nd router; will it work at all; or does it sound like the 2nd router is just broken.
Routers should be able to recognize one another right?

I am just curious you would want to do that when you already have a hub. Anyway, you must disable the second connected router from issuing an IP address, and then it will function as a hub. You can't have two routers directly linked to each other, both attempting to issue IP addresses.
Wham, Bam, Slam interfering with each other.

ranchhand is right again...
also, do not let your systems to attrib random IPs... name them both with different IP addresses and set the gateway to your computer connected to the router.

actually, I originally wanted to see if I could hook up to xbox live because the hub seemed not to work when connected to the router. Since then the problem seems to have fixed itself.
But now I want to replace the hub with a wireless router for my new PSP. The reason I don't just replace the first router with a wireless is because the modem is in my parents' shop and we run a cable up the house from the router for our personal computers.
Thanks so much for your help.

Well, I am a w/less freak. Luv 'em. Got my whole house set up on w/less. Right now, Best Buy has good buys on D-Link wifi router, 2.4GHz. I just got a new one, after rebate $15!! I know there are more powerful ones out there now, but for average user that is very powerful. D-Link also has superb toll-free support, and those guys know their stuff.
