Hi there!
I got pack of 5 CD's of ubuntu Hoary Hedgehog 5.04 on my mailbox Today. Then I started VMware 4.5.2 on windows, and i powered on the machine and installation begins, when i jumped to partitioner step then i found error of "Please check that hard disk is connected" when i continued partition step failed , i got one step back at previous then it said no filesystem found.and it forced me to move to main menu.Whenever i tried to parttion in installer process it is failing with above error.I m completely lost,What can i do?

If you want to know what is on VMware -Here goes
Simplymepis kernel 2.6x (Space allocated 6 GB)
Windows XP professional Service pack 1 (Space allocated 8 GB)

Each guest operating system is kept alone,to avoid conflict.I have about 15 GB space for any other Guest OS for install on same drive,so i dont think there is any problem for Vmware.
Do i need to create partition for ubuntu on Vmware with boot floppy or else?Is my CD ok? or there is trouble with it.
I am not allowed to install any Linux on Real hardware so i m installing Ubuntu on VMware. Is there anyway where someone can help me step by step install 'ubuntu' on VMware 4.5.2 ?

Just a first little thing tio check... You do have asigned some space in VMWare for the new instalaltion I guess? and as what have you decided to emulate it? ATA-disk? SCSI-disk? and is it a separate partition tha VMWare uses or is it a file that is used as a filesystem for VMWare?

Could you tell us how VMWare is configured and how it is set up for this system.

It's a long time since I was working with VMWare so I'm not that familliar with it...

Not allowed to install on real hardware? so it isn't your computer? You really do miss out on a lot of speed when using Linux through VMWare and not natively... but I guess you knew that allready.

Hi,
configured VMware as IDE not as SCSI.
Also VMware is installed on D: of my windows it using file in windows as filesystem. When you create any new machine it creates folder for you wherever you want.all os related files are stored in that folder.

You can refer my previous text as what error i m getting while installling OS.You see i m actually upto that Installer, but i dont know why it is not working.

well does the settings for Ubunto differ anything from your other instalaltions of Linux?

Before you can access your SCSI devices from Linux, you must have the proper driver for your SCSI host adapter loaded. There are two basic ways to do this. The first is by loading the proper modules in after booting, and the second is by building the proper drivers into the kernel.

We are trying to load the proper modules.

So write down These steps in order to proceed to installation.

From Technician Pauline Mason

During the installation process, please perform this:

1. When you receive the error that no hard disk cannot be found, open the console by pressing ALT + F2 on your keyboard.

2. In the command line, please enter "modprobe BusLogic".

3. Return to the installation by pressing ALT + F1 on your keyboard to continue installing Ubuntu.

So from here, installation will be guided and easy.It works with VMware 5.x or 4.x also.

-Hope this helps
