I had troubles with my pc before, and i have fixed some of those troubles. If you want to see my troubles please go to:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...15&pagenumber=1

However in brief, i know Windows XP is installed on my computer.

Previously with a Windows XP Boot Floppy i have done: fdisk/mbr

First what happens is this (click here)

Then what happens is this (click here)

I need to get into Windows without reinstalling it and loosing all my data! It has already been installed, and i don't want to re-install it over the top again!

Please help!

If you have done that, you killed the Master Boot Record, so I am affraid you will need to reinstall.

Sorry the link was dead!

But go to

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/sh...15&pagenumber=1

(Copy into address bar)

This gives full details of what i'v done.

Apparently, this sometimes happens after a XP repair... and that if i continue it won't install over the top??

Is this correct?

As far as I can understand, Windows is trying to perform a fresh (new) install. A "repair install" will probably not work after "fdisk /mbr". but you can try it.

If you have critical data on your HD that you want to preserve, you can try to hook it as slave on another comp and try to access it, but I doubt that you can do that, if new partitionning have been completed.

Note that after reinstalling, you'll need to reload all motherboard/chipset and video drivers and download the Windows security patches and service packs again.
