Good evening everyone, I have a problem if you couldn't already tell from the topic. Yesterday while I was at work, my fiancee noticed the computer was running kind of slow. So being the thoughtful person she is, she deceided to ask a friend of hers what she could do about it. Her friend told her to run regedit and go into the registry. She said there should only be a hand full of folders in the registry. So anything she didn't recognize, she deleted. But she said there were so many folders in there, that she just got bored with it and deceided to stop and ask me when I got home.

Problem part II is, she forgot to ask me about it and then when I got home she forgot to tell me about it. Now I get home today and she says, strange the computer doesn't seem to want to work right. I cant open any .exe files, not much of anything is running right and it is running really slow. I thought I would try to run the windows XP disk that came with my Dell to see if that would work, but it seems to be missing.

Any advice would help so much.

I am heading to Iraq in a week and the computer was going to be pretty much the only way for her to keep in touch with me and I don't have any money to take it to have it worked on.

Hi lodinn, welcome to SAF

Depending on what was deleted, you may try a system restore first. If you can not perform it in normal mode, you'll need to try it in safe mode.

If it does not work, you'll need the XP disk to try a repair install.

Hi lodinn...welcome to SAF from me as well.

If there is a recent system restore option, that would be the way to go.

In case you still need to restore the registry association to EXE files, download this INF file to the desktop and right-click > Install will do it.
