Hey guys, hope you can help me.

I got a pc about month ago and everthing was good, its pretty high spec and thought i would be problem free for a while. However about a week ago most prgrams crash when the load up. It comes up with "XXXXX Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." The only programs that work are mozilla firefox and william hill poker.

Having bought norton anti virus I thought i would just scan the computer and that will be it sorted, however that crashes too. Next idea was system restore but, you've guessed it it crashes.

Microsoft word seems ok too, but excel crashes whn you do anything such as selecting bold etc. Don't know what to do since no programs seem to work. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi fonzie, welcome to SAF

Have you tried a system restore to a point just before the problem started ? This may solve your problem.

Restart the PC. Right after POST (power on self test) but before windows starts to load, hit F8 repeatedly. This should bring you to the boot menu. Select Boot to Safemode. Open some programs in safemode. If it crashes, post back. If you can open stuff in safemode, try System Restore from there.

Post your results. If this works, there are still some other things we will need to do to prevent it from happening again.

PS - welcome to SAF!
