[B]lol I thought i wasn,t too bad at using computers untill i had a look at this site. I bought a second hand computer and it had windows ME in it , i wanted xp profesional in it so between me and my brother we managed to put it in, after several tries that is. Although xp is now in i think drivers and such like are missing and I want to format it but i really have no idea how to do this, i don't have any other discs for it except xp, can anyone tell me how to do this?

If you format the drive, then the XP install you just put in would be wiped out. If it's working, go to the websites for the various pieces of hardware and find the latest drivers for XP. You can also find a lot of the drivers HERE and HERE.

Download and install Everest Home Edition and it will give a listing of the hardware on your system.

Click the following links for each upgrade.....

BIOS Follow any and all directions for BIOS upgrades to the letter. This step, if not completed properly, can render your system useless, requiring a replacement of the motherboard to get it going again.

Graphics Driver Highlight:

Step 1 - Graphics Driver
Step 2 - GeForce and TNT2
Step 3 - Windows XP/2000

Sound Card Highlight:

Step 1 - Sound Blaster
Step 2 - Others
Step 3 - Sound Blaster PCI128

The rest should be operating OK. Since you appear to be using broadband (the GlobeSpan USB adapter) you probably don't need drivers for the 56K modem, but they are HERE.

Once you have all these, it's a good idea to burn them to a CD-ROM in case you need them for a future reload of the operating system.

And my weekend was very quiet and relaxing, thank you! cool.gif

I wouldn't ever pay for a bios update, you won't ever be asked to from the mobo manufacture , well just from some web sites you might be.

Here this might help you.
BIOS
BIOS for Apollo KT133A (Socket A)
Models
K133AASA-998/K133AASA-B998
K133AASA-220/A
K133AASA-220/B
K133AASA-220/C
K133AMSA-246

To find the model have a look for it on the motherboard.

Hi Milly,

Milly, flashing your BIOS will get you nothing. BIOS flashing is used only when there is a problem with a certain BIOS recognizing certain hardware, Harddrive sizes, etc. or other things. A BIOS flash is dangerous at best, and you will see no improvements afterwards.

Let's start from Home again. According to Everest, you are running a 1GHz processor and 384 MB of memory, which gives you the basic requirements for running XP acceptably. It should be running now.

Okay, exactly what is the problem that you are experiencing? WHY do you feel that you need drivers, etc. What is the computer not doing that you need?

This is your chipset driver: Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8363(A)
Go Here and download the Hyperion 4x1 chipset drivers. Do not use the Pro, just the 4.56 version. Install them.

Remember, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If XP is running well, doing all that you need, not crashing or blue screening, let it be. If you have specific problems, list them for us. smile.gif
