ARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGhhhh this is why I love my Mac so much.

I get this message as I am trying to re-install the system softwre as the machine began to run painfully slowly I thought it may be a virus.

set up cannot create the folder \WINDOWS\System32\IME\TINTLGNT

Does this mean the HDD is broken? Or is something not allowing my computer to write files to the Hard Drive.

Any Ideas as it's driving me nuts! eeeeek.gif

cheers peeps.....

Hi davepowell, welcome to SAF

Just wondering why Windows is trying to install a process that allows a user to work with complex characters and symbols... is it a foreign language OS (Chinese, Russian, Arabic) ?

...how, exactly are you doing that ? Installing on top, repair install...

Can you try to create the folder manually at command prompt ?

Your Hard disk may be bad, or this may be something related to NTFS partition...

Hi Dave,

Not sure it's a good idea... I'd better try a repair install first and then see why the system is slow. You may have a malware or virus infection that will not go away on reinstall, unless you perform a complete reformat.

Can you still access the HD on this computer ?

If your Windows is still running, click <Start/Programs/Accessories/Comand prompt>
If not, you'll need to boot from a diskette to do that:

on command prompt:
C:\
Type
cd\windows\system32
dir *.
if the IME folder does not exist, type
md IME
cd ime
md TINTLGNT

No I canny access the start menu and when I turn it on now it just says " remove disks or other media Press any key to restart" unless I start it up from the CD.

I don't have a floppy disk for the recovery process. Is it possible to make one now? or is it too late?

How would I format the whole thing to start a fresh?

Or should I just give it the 'window' treatment there in out of so to speak!

cheers,

Dave

Boot from your Win XP CD
select "repair install" (not recovery console).

If it does not work, boot from your CD again and select "new install". Windows will reformat and reinstall.
