Ok, I have 3 computers and they all used to be hooked-up just fine. but this one was removed and since then I wiped it clean and put everything back on. Here's the problem. Have a NON_WIRELESS Linksys router which the other 2 are connected through, however this one is connected directly to the modem through a USB cable. Used to work that the other 2 could only connect if this one was turned on. Now the other 2 won't connect so long as I have this one connected to the modem, so it's this one or the other 2. How do I get things back to how they used to be?

Hi mynamesx, welcome to SAF
Not sure I understood your question, but, if I'm right, you reformatted and reinstalled the whole thing...

If you cleaned and reinstalled all, you must have reinstalled the motherboard/chipset/video drivers, prior to reconnect it to your wireless lan.
Depending on your OS, you also must have updated it to latest security and services packs.
Wiping OS and/or disk and install stuff may drive you to a lot of problems, so we'll wait for more details about this.

Sorry, I should have been more clear about this

My OS unfortunately is Me. I DO have a router(no it is NOT wireless) As I said my computer has no ethernet extension in the back, so it connects to the cable modem through a USB port. The modem then has a cord connecting it to the WAN port of the LinkSys router, from which 2 more cords go downstairs to the other 2 computers. In the past all 3 could connect at the same time, but only as long as this computer was turned on. Since then I ran the recovery program that came with the computer to restore it to the state it was purchased in, which does include re-installing the drivers. Now I'm able to get on-line, but in order for the other two to get on-line, I have to remove this one from the modem, so I kind of have to choose this one or those two. I'm aware I could go buy a piece to hook this one into the router, which would solve the problem, however don't wish to spend the money since everything used to work just fine. What I need to now is how to set this one back up to be able to work like they used to again.

Have you set your network settings correctly <Lan connections/Local connection> "properties" ? Services, Lan Card, TCP-IP, etc...

I agree with Chris. This definitely sounds like a configuration problem. Once you get it working, carefully create a detailed layout schematic with settings on every computer and where they are so you can remember how to reset it next time.
Also, make sure your computers are all running USB1 or USB2; when you get into legacy setups, you just have to try everything you can think of.

Therein lies the problem..I'm unsure of the exact steps to set it up...I tried usi8ng the networking wizard and makin a disc, but the other 2 computers run on XP, could that be the cause of the problems?

Does the two XP systems sees each other ?
Does the IP addresses on each machines are properly set ? If the ME computer is connected to the modem, it IP address may be set as gateway on the others.

How do I set it up as a gateway for the others?

If you do not reply before asking another question, I may not "see" exactly what is going wrong.
On lan properties, TCP-IP protocol properties, there should be the computer IP address/subnet mask/gateway listed. Except the Gateway (which must be the machine connected to the modem and the subnet mask, all machines on your network might have its own IP address, like this example:
IP address: 192.168.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

My apologies, I can't turn on the 3rd computer until roommate gets back in, so it may take some time for that one.
How do I tell if they are set properly on each machine? I think I can find the IP address on the xp versions, but where do I go on ME???
