Hi all, I am concerned over a new identity I have found on my computer. It is ASP.NET. This identitiy even has a password that I dont know. Is this a problem or a XP sp2 thing? I have never seen this identity before installing sp2 and while I was fixing a bunch of virus' that mysteriously appeared on my computer I went into User Accounts in control panel and found this asp.net thing. Anyone know anything about this?

Hi lchris,
Here are further informations about Net Framework adding a new asp.net user account to your system:
http://www.mvps.org/marksxp/WindowsXP/aspdot.phpIf you do not use Net Framework, you can uninstall it from your control panel "add/remove software".

Thank You LF and Iron, I see by one of the articles that I wasnt the only one concerned about this new identity. I am going to have microsoft help me remove it after I see if there is something I will lose function of by removing it. One thing that worries me is that my husband thought my computer was compromised because this account was found during a lengthy virus removal caused by the kids deactivating the AV and Firewall. He insisted that I change the name and password to the account so if some hacker came back he wouldnt be able to get in. I have changed the name of the account back to the original ASP.NET but the password is still the same as the one I changed it to. I am now thinking that since it is a .net thing the password may well have been my e-mail address. I hope I havent messed something up by doing this but....oh well! too late now to cry over spilled milk. Thank You again and Nice Icon LF.

Hi lchris,
You can safely remove Net Framework from your "Add/remove programs", as very few applications uses it. This will probably remove this account too.
If some application needs the Net Framework to perform, you will be prompted to download it again.
On the link I provided above, there are instructions to remove the Asp.net account if you do not want it on your system, without removing Net Framework.
This is not a virus, just part of Windows update package.

Ironbender, There isnt anything on add/remove that I recognize as being this ASP.Net account .
I read the instructions on the page you sent the link for and I just plain didnt get it but I tried it anyways and it said it was installing asp.net so I went to user accounts and deleted it from there.
I really want to thank you 2 for helping me out here. I dont often have many problems with my computer but when I do or if I have questions I will definately come back here. I wasnt made to feel stupid and you 2 were very nice. Thank You again. ~Lisa~

Hi Lisa,
do not search for asp.net... just uninstall Net Framework. (ASP.NET is part of Net Framework)

It should be listed as Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, or very similar.
