When I try to log on to MY EBAY I am getting this message: "Redirection limit for this URL exceeded. Unable to load the requested page. This may be caused by cookies that are blocked."
What can I do?

(I'm also having trouble getting WINDOWS UPDATE to check my computer for updates.) I use the Mozilla browser.

Hi hlwct,

On your browser, click <Options/Internet Options/Privacy tab>, click "Advanced" button.
Check "Ignore automated cookie handling"
Check "Primary cookies" <Allow>
Check "Third party cookies" <Block>
Check "Always allow per session cookies"
Hit <OK>
Hit <OK>
Close and restart your broowser
Try to log in.

Chris

PS - Also, on "General" tab, click on "Delete cookies" and "Delete files", including all offline content. This will flush your Temporary internet files and any remnant cookies.

Chris: Thanks for your reply. I tried what you said, but I still can't access ebay website. No problem with other URL's. I get same error message for ebay "....cookies that are blocked....." I deleted cookies and temp files.

this appears to be a case of attempting to visit a page that requires a login and so you are redirected to the login page, but the login page itself restricted only to authenticated users, so it attempts to redirect you to the login page again... begin infinite loop. IE seems to give up eventually (probably because the max URL length is hit) ane just 404s, but FireFox throws an error instead.

As you can see, it's a common (but not solved) issue on Mozilla/Firefox and some login pages that may temporarily misconfigured at the server side.

Depending on the page misconfiguration, you may be able to access it by using another browser, such as IE or Netscape, but, it's also possible that any browser will enter a security infinite loop. If it's the case, the problem may be temporary.

Any other threads related to this specific problem I've found on the net were not resolved.

Edit:

Open FireFox
Type "about:config" into the address bar
Scroll down and find "network.http.redirection-limit"
Change it
Reload the page

This doesn't always work.

Chris:
I've looked at this redirection limit problem on Google and find several discussion boards offering solutions. They have all failed and no one seems to have a clue about this problem. I loaded Mozilla 1.0.6.....but no help. I can't load ebay.com. What is going on??? Howard

Hi Howard,

Do not know what can be happen... tried to reproduce your problem on IE6 and Crazy browser, but no joy.

I can log in on e-bay and other auction sites, so I can not figure what is going wrong.

Maybe, for some reason, e-bay will not allow you to log in... sorry, sorry for that, but I can not figure what's wrong.

Not sure if Firefox uses the Windows HOSTS file or not. You might try renaming that file to disable it in case ebay.com is listed in there and blocking it. In Win2K and XP it's in G:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\.
