Hello,
I have started using XP Professional on my Dell Laptop (Latitude D600) recently. I am running into a very peculiar problem. Here are some observations:
1. Windows epxlorer takes a lot of time to open. This is especially true when I am working remotely (I use DSL).

2. When I am working remotely, it takes me a while to open file even on my local C drive. From my application if I got to 'file'--> 'open', it takes forever to get the list of files. However, the file opens quickly when I open an application (e.g. Excel) and open it thr' 'favorites'.

3. Once the file is open in an office application, using pull down menu (e.g. to change font size) FOR THE FIRST TIME takes a very long time. This is true irrespective of whether I am using a local file of the one from our remote server.

I understand, I might have been vague. My apologies. Please help or direct me to the right resource. Thanks.

- AJ

PS: I have run virus check and also Spybot to ensure that the laptop is clean

Hi A.J. and welcome to SAF

Not sure I understood your questions. You are working remotely, accessing your computer via internet ? This may be due to connections lacks...or from other programs/process running and trying to listen/connect on the background.

Antivirus may not catch all... if you want to be sure, you may run a housecall online virus check - http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Also, Spybot will not catch all problems, better run an updated version of AdAware SE - http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
