Hi coolman429, welcome to SAF

We will need more details about this problem in "clear" English. Please do not use abbreviations, as I can not understand most of them. rolleyes.gif

It sounds like something related to modem, but I am not sure.

Please post back and we will try to solve it.

If during POST, non-SPD memory is detected or the BIOS cannot determine that the memory installed meets SPD 100-MHz requirements, the motherboard BIOS will display this message:
"SERIAL PRESENCE DETECT (SPD) device data missing or inconclusive."
Properly programmed SPD device data is required for reliable operation.
Do you wish to attempt to boot at 100MHz bus speed?
Y/N [Y] Type [N] to shut down"

Thereafter, while non-SPD memory remains present, the boot screen will display the following message:

"SERIAL PRESENCE DETECT (SPD) device data missing or inconclusive. 100MHz memory assumed."

SPD 100-MHz memory may not be readily available in some locations. Also, some operators may not have critical data integrity requirements. If SPD 100-MHz memory cannot be confirmed during POST, the BIOS will provide this information to the user and offer the option to run the system with memory that may not meet the full 100-MHz operating requirements. If the system will be used in a mission-critical application where data integrity is vital, the system should be shut down and SPD 100-MHz memory installed prior to operation.

This is a memory or motherboard hardware problem. Does your system gives you the red option above ?
If yes, type Y to try to boot.

i have tried them all

So, Windows is trying to load, the BIOS message passed...

You may try resetting your BIOS to default values.
It's also possible that your memory sticks are bad. If you have more than one, try swapping them. If it does not work, try with one memory stick.

It may also be the Windows itself. You can try to boot from your Windows CD and perform a repair install from there.

message that is appearing to us. We have swapped the memory cards and we have taken one out as requested.

this is what we see.

We appologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change may have caused this.

if your computer stopped responding , restarted unexpectedly , or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose last know good configeration. To revert the most recent settings that worked.

If previous start up attempt was interrupted due to a power failure or because the reset button was pushed or if you are not sure what caused the problem choose to start windows normally

next screen

error; a memory module/ s module serial presen detect spd devise data is missing or inconclusive properly programmed spd data is required for reliable operation system can not boo.

100 mhz of memory consumed i have only 196 mb in the computer.
does Gateway have a way to use the go back function with the computer acting this way, We have a windows reboot disk but it is not windows hp the version that i have.

Don't panic. Your files are still inside the HD. If you have more than one computer, you may install this HD as slave on another computer and backup all your critical data.

???? You must have the original Windows CD... have you tried to boot from the CD you have ?

Your problem IS related to a memory or motherboard failure.
