On my recent trip to Ireland, which as some of you know was a result of my involvement with the Moya Brennan forum, each of us was given a CD called Óró, a Live Session, which is a live recording of a concert that was only released at that given concert and as such is pretty much impossible to get hold of commercially.

Moya Brennan had learned that there was a group coming who had met off the Internet and, although was unable to be there personally, had arranged for each of us to receive this CD.

Essentially, I own all 11 tracks on different albums, so these are essentially different arrangements of songs.

The interesting thing is, when I hear a second version of a song I like, I usually dislike the second one ... or it takes a while to grow on me.

But this one is somewhat different! There is one track I never really liked, and this hasn't changed on this new album. But there is another one I didn't like on the original but on here I love it!

As for the other tracks ... generally I prefer the ones on this new album, and one or two in particular I enjoy MUCH more on the new album.

So ... the question and discussion here is .... if you hear a second version of a song you know (be it live or a different mix/arrangement), which one do you generally prefer? The one you heard first, or the new one?

Normally, I prefer the first one... except, some times, when a "live" version sounds more "dynamic", because of different sounds and reverbs provided by the local itself, which is quite different of the studio "ideal" conditions.

This is quite rare, but happens, mostly when the singer(s) try to involve the public. It was the case for Renaud's "Dès que le vent soufflera". biggrin.gif

I like the first one, only on a rare occasion have I liked the second one, and a couple times I liked both, but most of the time, the first was always the best.

They had the live concert on the forum last week, and I had listened to some of it. biggrin.gif

I usually like the first one best. I am surprised if the remake of a song I like is as good as the first.

Good Evening,

I am looking for a 70s band, "Prelude." I googled but struck out on downloads. They are/were from England and did a lot of acoustic and cappela rock cover. Any clues?

Thank you,
Chris
