OK here is my annoying problem. I just started loosing the internet on one of my PCs during the week. All other PCs and laptops are unaffected and can still get on the internet fine. Whenever I try resetting the router or changing the ports for example my computer just pops up with messages like 'Acquiring network address' or 'Limited or no connectivity'. These show for a little while and then just disappear off my tray. I'm using a D-Link Wireless Router DI-624+ and haven't had a problem like this before. After doing some Google research under "acquiring network address" I found that its a common issue and the problem is with Microsoft and NOT the router - and that its related to a TCP/IP problem. I have read tons of forums with people asking the same question and I've tried everything and still no hope! Could someone please tell me how to get my other PC working again - I've tried resetting, changing IP, clearing IP cache, rebooting DHCP and everything.

Hi Pen Cap Chew, welcome to SAF

I had this problem some months ago, after my silly brother-in-law connected his laptop on my network using a crossover cable directly to my hub (all my network is cabled "paralel", except the broadband modem). Solved it by a system restore on the Win XP computer affected and, after that, giving his Lap a custom IP number and a proper paralel cable to work here.

I think the problem was a conflict between his Lap "auto attrib IP" and my other comps, which have different IPs (and OS) on the network.

Hello and thanks for the welcome!

Right now I'm holding onto a system restore as a last resort. I contacted D-Link and they said that some software (really implying a trojan) was on my system. They said my router would not assign me with an IP because the routers built-in firewall saw my PC as a security threat.

Earlier when I read some forums about people who had a similiar problem as me - some people said it could be caused by software/hardware interfering with the router. I'm currently running a full system scan with McAffee VirusScan. It will take awhile, but hopefully I'll find the problematic file. smiley- thumb up.gif

If the problem persists, you can post a HijackThis log on the "Malicious code" forum, as someone can take a look on it.

Hey,

I finished my Virus Scan and it found no infected files. I'll try a few adware scans incase its some 3rd-party advertisement software causing the problem. Also I will try installing HijackThis and posting the log.

This morning after running an adware check - I thought I'd check my McAfee firewall log. I saw that I had around 100 logs of a connection being made through 192.168.0.1 with the message 'Rasmin Trojan' and other variants. So now I know that I have a trojan that is messing around with my TCP and network connection. I also have had my ISP contact me today saying that they have seen unusual amounts of traffic to my computer.

I have done a few web searches under 'Rasmin Trojan' and have found no useful information that will help me remove/block it. I have done two trojan scans with The Cleaner and some free scanner I found on the internet - and found no infected trojans.

You may post a HijackThis log at "malicious code forum" (please start a new topic on it with any other text/header, as it will not confuse other members here).

The link below is a quick tutorial on how to deal with HJT:

Post your log and wait for other skilled member's advice.

Hey Pen Cap Chew

The thing is that your computer can't access the network while others can.
check the Lan settings in this computer.
Beside that, each router can deal with limited number of computers.
Check if now neighbour has connected to your wireless network without
your knowledge.
