I am running IE 6.02 with XP 5.1 and Service Pack 2. I don't know if the problem started after I downloaded sp2 or not, but when I try to connect to the internet using IE the page starts to load; I can see everything and then right when the page is just about done loading IE automatically closes by itself.

I am using Mozilla right now and that works fine so I know the problem is only IE. Unfortunately, I have to access some secured sites for work that won't work with Mozilla so I have to get IE fixed.

Any ideas? I have a Dell Dimension 4600 and the software came installed on the machine. I've looked at the disk that came with the machine and IE is not showing as an option to load and I do not want to do a full system re-install as you can imagine. All other programs seem to be working okay.

Thanks

My only suggestion is to download IE 6 Service Pack 1 from HERE and install it. If you want, click "open" when it requests and it will install straight from the internet.

Since it does contain the core operating files, hopefully it may overwrite your existing installation and straighten out the corrupted file that is causing the problem. At least it won't hurt anything.

If that doesn't work, I suggest running the latest Hijack This log and posting it in the Malware forum. I really don't think that is the problem, but let's cover all the bases anyway.

If still no joy, I hate to say it, but a repair reinstall would be in order. If you only have a restore disk or a hidden partition, well, you know... sad.gif

Re-installing IE on Windows XP is a bit more complicated than that. You have to sort of trick Windows into thinking its not currently installed. Its not hard, I've done it before.

Go here, will tell you exactly how.
