Hi,

I have put together the below:

Cosmos (GA8IDMNF) Rev 1.0 µATX motherboard
http://support.packardbell.com/uk/mypc/ind...odyssey_ixtreme
Intel P4 1.7Ghz
512 MB RAM
64 Geo Force Card Video Card

When I power the machine up it runs for a few seconds and then shuts off. I have tried everything I can think of

Has anyone got any ideas

Thanks, Martin icon_smile_mischievous[1].gif

Hi Martin,

Any beeps ? Any error message ?

Have you checked the mobo jumpers settings twice ? It may be some overheating issue due to jumpers misconfiguration.

I will also suspect some video card issue, but you may check for jumpers and BIOS, then removing it and trying the onboard video instead.

Do you mean that you do get to the POST screen, or does it shut down immediately after startup, like one or two seconds? In other words, the fans start to spin up, and then before the monitor even posts anything the unit shuts down?

Hi, I get one faint beep nothing posts on the monitor and it runs for 2 to 3 seconds and then shuts down.

Thanks, Martin

Right off the top, that is usually caused by one of two things:

> Your CPU's heasink fan is not plugged into the proper socket; it should be in FAN_1, or CPU FAN, or something like that. Any other power source will cause your CPU to shut down.

> This is the usual cause: problem with the thermal paste application to the CPU before installing the heatsink. Remove the heatsink, and use a little paint thinner on a paper towel (and I do mean a Little!) to gently remove the old thermal paste from both the bottom of the heatsink, and the CPU itself. Reapply fresh thermal paste and reset your heatsink. Be absolutely sure that the heatsink is sitting flat and level, and not reversed (it's easy to do on some models!). Here is an excellent link to applying thermal compound properly: Thermal Paste.

I like to apply it about the thickness of a sheet of typing paper.

Post back and let us know how it goes!

Hi,

I have the aux 12 v connector connected to the board. Should this be connected or should it not make any difference

Thanks again

Long as it is plugged into the proper socket on the mobo, it's fine.
