Ok, I got rid of the annoying recovery partition. Now I have one big C drive. smile.gif Now, I'd like to partition it into C and D so that I can install Linux, but I didn't know how to do that when I was formatting my HDD, so I didn't mess around. I just did what I knew how to do, and moved on. Now, I know partitioning programs aren't a good thing to look to use, but it doesn't matter to me right now. If something goes wrong, I can always boot from floppy, format everything, and start over again. But in any case, I'd like to partiton my 38 gig C drive into 19 Gb a piece C and D drives. Also, if you could give me backup instructions on how to format a drive normally, into two partitions, in case something does go wrong, I'd be greatful. Thanks. After partitioning the drives, I want to install Linux on the D.

Zero, [We meet again, your posting all over the place]

Rather then try to give you a "specific" answer, I'll tell you what I do.

When setting up a dual boot hard drive, I do the usual Fdisk & Format.

If I have a 20 gig HD, I split it into two 10's. For the "Windows half" I use my Win98SE CD [for computers WITHOUT Windows].

NOTE: I've never bought WinXP, I don't want to ask Bill Gates "permission" to remove/install an OS.

Next, I install a Primary DOS partition of 10 gigs and format it. I don't install any other partitions. As far as Windows can "see", the drive is 10 gigs and a "big empty space".

I then FIRST install Windows using my Win98SE CD. Next I install the Linux distro and tell it to use "available space". This is the OTHER 10 gigs on the hard drive.

[Yes, I am posting a lot lately, so it seems. ._.]

I'm not exactly sure how to use FDisk and Format to partition a drive into multiple partitions. I only know how to use them to make one big chunk. (I taught myself, so... yeah, I make do with what I know XD)

Mind explaining step by step?

Zero,

If you don't have a Win98SE floppy you can get one here.

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Be sure it's SE [second edition]

From the A:\> prompt type in fdisk and read the menu and remove all partitions.

You really only have to create a "Primary DOS" partition. This is where Windows will go.

1) Just use "half" the available space. On a 40 gig drive use 20 gigs.

2) You don't need to create any partitions for Linux. The Linux installer will use the "available" space.

Let me know if you need addtional instructions.
