I just bought a new battery for my Toshiba Laptop and for some reason it keeps dying to soon. After every charge it will only last for a couple of minutes and then it goes dead and I have to recharge it again. If anyone can help me that would be great.

P.S. I am trying the Linux thing to recover my files.

If you are recharging it properly, then return it. Probably faulty.

Or your power supply could be defective. With a lot of use and handling, the wires in the cords will break.

RMA the battery, most likely you received a bad battery.
