hey there. I've got a problem with my sound, the problem - I have none! A couple of days ago, I un-installed a program (windows desktop search) and now I dont have no sound. When i turned my speakers on (afetr the restart) i heard this 'dud', muffled sound and the nothing.

At first I thought it was the speakers, but I've tested them seperatley on my mini disk player and they work fine. I've tried putting headphones into the PC, but i still get no sound.

But windows says my sound card is working fine and theres no '!' or 'x' next to anything in my device manager.

has anyone got any idea what this could be?? Do i need a new soundcard?? I have onboard sound, as I cant see no actual card.

Any help would be amazing, as its doing my head in! sad.gif

thankyou

If you have onboard sound, reloading the motherboards chipset/sound drivers ~should~ clear up the problem, as long as no essential files were removed when the program uninstall was performed.

at the risk of sounding stupid, its not gona mess anything up will it?? like if i re-install them, wont cause conflicts or anything??

what i'm tryin to say is, that is just like re-installing software??

EDIT: I've tried installing the drivers and bits, but still get nothing. any other ideas?? I remember opening the case of the PC, do u think some static may have got in and fried it??

Sound problems can get complicated.

First, tell us Exactly what program you had installed, and then un-installed. What did this program do and what was its name? Since your problems started from that point forward, it might give us a clue.

Second, tell us if you have a soundcard, or integrated sound (sound on your mainboard).

Third, tell us the name and model # of your mainboard.

Thanks
