I just built a new "killer" computer at least for me. ASUS mobo=A7N8X-E Deluxe Nvidia chipset - AMD Athlon XP 3200+ Barton 400MHz FSB Socket A Processor - ASUS V9999GT/TD/256M Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card - 1 gig Kingston PC3200 value ram - Antec TRUE CONTROL 550W ATX 550W Power Supply - and 2 Samsung serial ATA hdd The trouble is I have got it all together and when I try to power it up I just get a continous shrill beep. The mobo has Award/Phoenix bios and according to the listed beep code this means "no memory or memory not recognized". I read one review that the man mentioned that he had trouble with this MOBO recognizing Kingston memory. This is the first computer I have had fail on initial start. Any suggestions? Is it the memory? Should I just try another brand of memory? I have sent emails to ASUS and have had no response.
Thanks,
John

Hi jfholm, welcome to SAF
It is probably the memory stick... note that (as you probably knows), the mem stick may have been damaged by static electricity during unpack/install... or it may be not corectly seated.
Have you checked all wires, jumpers and cards twice ?

You didn't exactly say, but if you are running two sticks of 512, try booting with one stick at a time to see if the problem is with one of them. If they both have the same reaction, try swapping out one stick of a different brand memory. If it still does it with a different brand stick, it has to be your mainboard.
Hint: Best Buy has a full refund for many computer products; if you purchase a stick from them, and that is not the problem, you can return it for a refund. However, it has been a while since I have bought anything from them other than blank CDs, so check their policy first.
Also, don't forget to set your BIOS to default settings before you boot; you can crank it up to 400FSB after you are booting clean.

[SIZE=7]I appreciate the replies. I am going to try a different brand of memory as that is easier than replacing the MOBO. If that doesn't work than I will try and get an RMA and get another mobo. Been a bad week as I also tried to use ASUS ez-Flash on another mobo and it failed big time and hosed another mobo and I can not get it to boot either. I am down to 1 computer and I am now more protective than a mothe hen.

I also forgot to note that it was two sticks of 512 Kingston value ram. I took both of those sticks and put into another known working computer and they work just fine. Thanks to the two of you who responded as it makes the choice on what to do much easier.

If you ran a bad flash, you can try to reflash it. I only had a problem once, and found out that I had to use a clean bootdisk. After that it flashed smoothly. A clean bootdisk is a WIN98 boot disk with no generic CDdrivers or other peripherals that are normally on it. You can d/load one at Bootdisk.com.
If still no joy, many manufacturers will allow you to send the board to them to reflash/replace the BIOS. Usually only costs a few bucks, far cheaper than buying a new board.
