Hello,

It seems that every page I create with Frontpage, when viewed in IE or firefox has the scroll bar of the page on the left instead of the right. are there any settings in frontpage to make it be on the right like it should? it only happens with frontpage.

Hi Tweety^,

Only have seen this in few cases: if you are using Style sheets, Iframes, or if the page/table is resized to an improper view window... need to see the html code...

In style sheets, there is a tag that can move the scrollbar from right to left.

If you have published your page on the net, please provide a link as I can take a look on it.

Here is an example of a page I created with frontpage which has the scroll bar on the left:

Hi Tweety^,
had a look on your page...

first, it loads normally (text before on normal window).

Second, when the background loads, the scrollbar appears at left, and the text is moved to right...

It seems that the background image is larger than the page, and the text margin is not properly set. (if you have page/tables on 800x600 for example, 780 pixels large , not to have a bottom scrolbar, and your background image is 1024 x something, it will mess with all your layout.

This will also happen if you use tables with % and images with pixels or vice-versa.

I presume that this behavior is due to the background image size. Try to set it to 780 pixels.

Edited: on a second lok, it seems that yout page margins are set to (left: 223 px, top -45) or something like this... (minus on margin position is quite strange). Try to set page margins left to 0 and top to 5(max)

Hope it will help

Thanks for having a look at my page, I'm affraid though you lost me here with all these terms.

The background image is 1024x768 exactly and 440kb file size. I created this specifically in this resolution.

I tried to set page margins left to 0 and top to 5 but all it did was change the position of the 'Welcome' title from the right to the left. and I'm affraid I have no idea what you mean by 'tables with % and images with pixels' sad.gif

But whats weird is when I opened it in FireFox browser, the scroll baris on the right as normal.

Ok Tweety^, do not panic lol.gif

It was probably caused by the minus sign on the margin settings (forget about tables)...

Now, you can try to re-set your page margins by testing, until it fits where you want it to be biggrin.gif

Post the new link back when you update it, I like to see that biggrin.gif

Well, I tried to play with the margin settings and the minuses but it just moves the images around.

The only way I can make the scroll bar on the right is by uploading the page and its images to geocities site builder, edit it there and save, then download with frontpage from geocities and again edit the changes and finally upload to the server of my site. only then the scroll bar is on the right but to do all this long process just for that is kind of a pain and I was trying to avoid that. not to mention I have to disable my firewall in order to allow geocities site builder load.

Here's how it turned out in the end:

Nice site Tweety^ smiley- yes.gif ...liked it !

if I undertood all, you are from Israël... does the language there not writed from right to left ? If it is, and your system is set to do that, this can be the cause to the left scrollbar... don't know.

Need to try all the FrontPage tools, preferences, options and search for it...

I know there were some tags on your previous page that has now disappeared, related to ltr/rtl... which means left-to-right/right-to-left on a stylesheet page. This is why I suppose your whole system is set to write from right to left by default...

hehe thanks Chris for the comments, now 'all' I have to do is change everything to the 1024x768 resolution now that I have a new monitor biggrin.gif

At first I thought of the fact that its because I'm from Israel and searched for the options in frontpage but it wasnt it. then again, my windows OS is english version so it can't really be it after all. let's face it, frontpage doesnt like me lol

Yeah, the reason most tags dissapeared is because geocities transform the page built it frontpage to its own settings and builder. one of those changes must have fixed the scroll bar I'm sure. I guess this is the only way to do the pages, I wish also that there was a way to add and preserve fonts that arent windows default ones other than making them images first, would have been much better but this will do I guess...

Ah and since you already viewed my site, the only page you havent seen is the opening: Opening Page

Time to work on the logons section boing.gif Many thanks for the help Chris biggrin.gif

Nice work smiley- thumb up.gif

Now, all you have to do is turning your graphics lighter, as they will load quickly. I use Fireworks to optimize that, but there is a lot of free images optimizers out there, like at http://www.snapfiles.com

Have a safe and fun week-end biggrin.gif

I will definitely have a look at the link you provided, thank you and have a great weekend too! smile.gif

Hi Tweety^

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but it's a neat little program, Font Runner

This is so handy.

All you have to do, is put any font you have downloaded in a folder on your C Drive. I made a folder and named it 'FONT' then made subfolders, to organize them, A, B, C, and so on.

You don't have to install them in your font file. You open FontRunner, and click on the folder your fonts are in, and the font will come up, in the preview screen, then go to the program you want to use it in, and when you pick out the font you want, it will be there.

When you close FontRunner, the font won't run in the program any more, so you have to have FontRunner open, with the font there to be able to use it....It is so nice, and easy to use.

Maybe this will be of some help.

Actually, is this what you mean Tweety? A way to put them in your webpages?

This is exactly what I meant, in this way they describe in the tutorial even users who dont have the font used on the site installed, can still see it right. the only problem with it is the activeX warning, most people are quite careful with what they allow to install on their PC's. I will read it more thoroughly, thanks a lot smile.gif
