anyone out there who has WinMx or anyother type of free file sharing application knows its illegal and you can be prosecuted. What they do is find your IP address and trace it back to you and fine you so many thousand for which ever song or video you have. I heard though that you can get a particular router that you hook up to your internet cable somehow and it either masks, hides and puts a false IP address in place of yours so you cannot be found. is this true, if so, how do you go about sorting it all out?

You can not, it's provided by your ISP.

masking your IP address will not hide you from the net if you want to do some illegal stuff. Also, if your computer answers to any external pings, you will be busted anyway.

Remember that there is no 100% stealth or unknown conditions on the internet.

Use a good firewall and stay clear from p2p softwares (like Kazaa).
