Hi,
I use my scanenr as part of my business the last time I used it was about 3 days ago. I went to use it this morning and it's not being recognised by the computer. So I thought "ok" and restarted the computer, still no scanner, I unplugged it and waited a while and plugged it in again, another restart. Still not seeing it. I swapped USB cables just incase there was a problem with the cable and restarted again still nothing. So I restorted to system restore, don't ask me why or how but system restore had been turned off so there is no restor point available. I tried add new hardware but it doesn't show the scanner on the list. I can't locate the installation disk for the scanner, so I can't simply reinstall. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Hi ozsan,
If you post the make and model, we can try to find the proper drivers for it.
In theory, WinXp may recognize it as a "new hardware" if you go to device manager, remove it and click "refresh". (better have the drivers ready if it's not listed in WinXP)
It is also possible that your scanner simply died...
Are other USB devices still working ? (just to see if it's not another issue)

Hi Chris,
I'm using windows XP home, the scanner is an Epson Perfection 1650. I've tried other USB devices and they are working just fine, I've switched slots in the USB hub to see if it was just thea slot but still nothing. I can't find the scanner in the device manager to uninstall.
I thought the scanner may have died but would that cause it to be gone from the devices list and my computer?

You can download your scanner utilities and drivers at
http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support...indows&x=25&y=7As it's a USB image capture device, it may be listed as some other thing, do not know exactly... is it listed on your "add/remove software" anyway ?
Try reinstalling the drivers and post back to let us know what happened.

I found the installation disk and uninsalled all of the software then reinstalled. Nothing changed. So speaking to my electrician son he said turn the whole computer off and pull the plug out of the wall and wait 1 miniute then plug in and restart. I though "oh yeah sure" but I was getting desperate so I did and low and behold the scanner started up and everything is working as usual. My son said that sometimes the ekectrical charge builds up in a house and you need to release it by pulling the plug out . I don't know if that's right but it's working so I suppose I have to beleive him.
Thanks for your help

obvious solutions are the last to be tried
It happened two or three times with my son's computer and I not remembered it
Glad to know that all is working fine now.

Just FYI - if you are using a usb hub (as stated above) connected to a usb port on your case.
These can be buggy with some items. I have had issues with an external harddrive, printer and scanner with two different hubs. The devices work fine when connected to the usb port on the pc, but not always when connected to the hub.
I have documentation somewhere for a printer that says not to connect it to a hub. Something to do with errors in the bi-direcitonal communication.
Not sure if this is still an issue with newer hubs (my newest is an early usb2 model).
