I am trying to install fedora 3 on an external hd (Western Digital 160 GB). When i insert cd to install it goes through the lang. section, inst type (I want personal desktop). It then goes to Disk Partitioning, which I don't feel I need to do this because I want this drive to soley be for fedora. Anyway if I do this it get 's to Disk setup but it recognizes only my internal HD which has ms xp. How can I install fedors to the external HD(usb con.) If the responses could be detailed I would be grateful. The disk comes from Red Hat Linux Fedora 3 Unleashed SAMS.

Yhanks for help in advance,

clasar,

Does your external drive use a USB connection ??

I believe "most" Linux installations will have a problem working with an external drive.

Normally Linux "expects" to work with an internal hard drive.

I think you need to turn "Legacy USB" on in your BIOS to be able to find the USB-drive during installaltion.

On the other hand there seems to be quite a lot of work to get it working... here is thread on the Fedora forum that handles the subject. (Since I'm a Debian guy and not a Fedora guy I post the URL to the thread here and you can maybe make it work for you. Just remember to read all of it before you try it since things get modefied in later posts.)
