keybrd.gif tried to post this previously but no replies in a fortnight so thought id give it another go!!!
ok.....basic problem is this ...my p.c. crashed so had to reboot from recovery disc......i reinstalled my internet connection which is on a netgear wireless connection but every time the p.c. is switched on the screen loads perfectly normally and then the screen resolution goes bigger than it should be.The proper screen is then reset using control panel and everything else loads ok but the internet connection has to be reconfigured in the security settings...the pc doesnt seem to retain the encryption settings whenever it is switched on again.. I know it is only a minor problem but it is doing my head in thair.gif ..so is there anyone out there with a solution please?

tread.gif Ok - some of your terminology is off which is probably why it wasn't answered the first time - I have read it 5 times so far and can't make much sense of it smile.gif So let me make sure I understand what’s going on...

Your systems - crashed, you ran the recovery utility that came with it to restore it, which would have wiped your data and settings. What OS do you run Win98, ME, XP?

You connect to a wireless netgear router...what does that connect to for internet access? Cable, DSL etc...

You reinstalled the drivers and software for the wireless card that is in your computer. If you’re running WinXP do you use the software that came with your wireless card to manage the connection or do you use Windows to manage the connection?

What "screen" loads perfectly...you mean the computer starts and loads into Windows is at the expected resolution (say 1024x768) but then switches automatically to a lower resolution like 640x480?

Where are you "reconfiguring" the "internet connection" - do you mean you have to go into the wireless software/winxp settings to re-enable the security settings you need for your wireless connection?

If you connect to the wireless router with your card and THEN it ask you for the encryption key by default I do not believe it will save you, you should let Windows manage your wireless connection (Start-->Control Panel-->Network Connections) and go into the properties of your wireless card and enter the encryption key there.

Other possible fix is to update the wireless card drivers and firmware for the router. tread.gif

[FONT=Arial][SIZE=1][COLOR=blue] keybrd.gif thanks for reply and here is some further info to help.....the windows operating system is xp...the screen im referring to is the desktop windows screen which has 1024 x 768 initially then changes to smaller resollution...the internet connection is via cable telewest...when the desktop screen is finally loaded then a red monitor icon appears in the icon tray at the bottom right hand side of the desktop.Double clicking on this icon enables me to enter the configuration settings and then the security settings....the internet connection then functions properly
finally the software disk supplied by the isp provider does not allow windows to configure the settings (installation instructions say to remove tick in the wireless connections advanced tab which switches the windows software off)

hope this is enough info and look forward to your reply
