I am running Winfax Pro for faxing out of my computer. All of a sudden, for some strange reason, my modem decides to bootup when I boot the computer. It does not try to dial out, it just loads and sits in mmemory (Task Manager-Applications). If I End Application on it, it boots again. Even if I End Process on WFXCTL32.exe it immediately reloads into memory. I ran Hijack This and ended the startup call from Hijack This, and it instantly re-loads again! I went into the two RUN hives in the register, but there is no
entry in either one. It is not in Startups in the Start file in Explore. Where is this startup call coming from??

Here is the entry in Hijack This for the little sucker:
O23 - Service: WinFax PRO (wfxsvc) - Symantec Corporation - C:\WINDOWS\system32\WFXSVC.EXE
As I stated, soon as I fix it, it immediatley reloads again.

I have gone into Modems in Control Panel and can't find anything to stop this. I right click on the little,
yellow fax icon in the system tray for Windfax Pro, I can't find anywhere to prevent auto-loading.

I only use the fax in my computer occasionally; I don't want the loaded modem sitting taking up resources
for no good reason. I slows my system response so much I can tell immediately when it loaded again, and
sure enough, there it is in Processes. I end process on it and my computer is back to blazing speed again.

Can anyone tell me how to stop Winfax Pro from auto-loading? It seems to have started this
recently.

Never used WInfax. Not sure about the options. If you cant find any options for it, disable the modem in all profiles in device manager. You will only need to enable it when you need to send a fax.

I would guess the program cant load if the hardware is disabled.

If it does, you should get an error. If htat happens, the error might point to the problem.

In addition, I know that Winfax pro have a "startup option" when it is installed for the first time. Maybe you can try uninstalling and reinstalling it ?
