hello

I just took my sisters PC to take out her RAM stick and compare it to mine...

I then put it back in fully pushed down so it clipped in, put the case back on then turned on the pc.

Now nothing appears on the screen at all!!!!!!!!

and i cant figure out why, (yes i put the right ram stick in as my ram stick and hers are different)

i have tried pushing it in as hard as i can still no results.

anyone know what the problem might be????

i really need help i have been punched to death by my dad over this already sad.gif

Thanks

Dan Penny
Are you getting any lights, fans, beeps, anything to indicate power is being applied to the system?
mianon
yes it has power, at first i got bois beeps cause i put the stick in wrong way round, all the system is working. just nothing is showing up on screen.

Make sure there is power for the monitor, check the video cable going to the system. If it's a video card as opposed to on board video, ensure the card is fully seated in the slot.

Check anything inside you may have touched/bumped. (With the power off of course.)

Also check the memory slot for possible damage from trying to install the stick incorrectly. If you pushed down excessively on the stick there's a possibility you may have also cracked a track or two on the motherboard.

yes it has power

If the Power Supply provides all the required voltages, then there's a remaining hardware problem that won't allow the BIOS to finish the Power On Self Test (the BIOS will stop on serious problems - sometimes it will give you an audible "error message" and sometimes not.

It's also possible for the PS to have lost something like the +5 volt output - this makes it look like things are running because of the +12 volt generation that's used for motors (hard drive, etc.).

The RAM stick may be "toast" - that's why each style has different keying and forcing anything into a connector is always a bad policy. This could easily cause the BIOS diagnostics to stop giving no video output.

Try removing the RAM again and re-installing it just in case you're lucky and it's just not seated well.

this has got even wierder

it turns out when i "put the ram in the wrong way" it was really the RIGHT WAY and the other times i had forced it down, now when i put the ram in the RIGHT WAY i get bios bleeps, is this a sign of the ram stick been brown bread?

Alfons
Ensure that all power is OFF when working with RAM, then:

1. Remove it and check for physical damage - if you were able to force it into a fully seated position when it wasn't aligned with it's keys may have caused damage to the sticks edge. Also, check the Motherboard RAM slot for any physical damage or anything jammed into it.

2. Insert it (the right way) into a different RAM slot (there are normally between two and four of these on a board. If there are three slots, try the one farthest away from where it's currently plugged in.

3. After the RAM is fully & properly seated, re-attach the power and start the computer. If it doesn't respond properly there's a good chance you've either damaged (or fried) the RAM or Motherboard and in this case try to get a stick (doesn't matter what memory size, as long as it's physical size and type are correct) of known-good RAM and try it with this.

eeeeek.gif mianon, do you mean that you are doing that with te computer plugged on ?

Are you sure you are trying to seat it on the right slot ?

As Alfons said before, your RAM stick may be fried. sad.gif or, as danpenny said, you may have cracked some tracks on the motherboard.
