With all the talk about Norton, I'm about ready to toss ZoneAlarm out the window mad.gif

I have been working on an picture album (Coppermine) for four weeks now, because I was having a problem with the thumbnails, and just now found out, it was ZoneAlarm that was causing the problem.

In this picture album, you can go and edit, in anyone of the albums in there, and it will bring up all the pictures in thumbnails, then you can delete, add descriptions, whatever to edit the pictures.

The first time I downloaded it, all the thumbnails would show up, and I was able to start adding descriptions, and every day I would go in another album, to do the same, then one day, the thumbnails wouldn't show up. After a few days trying to get it to work, (and yes, I even shut down ZoneAlarm) I uninstalled it, and then downloaded the new updated one. It worked beautiful for three days, then started the samething. This time, some thumbnails would show up, and some wouldn't, and sometimes they would all show up, and sometimes none of them would show up. banghead[1].gif

As a last resort, I disabled ZoneAlarm, and went back to Coppermine, and all the thumbnails were there, turn ZoneAlarm back on, and they were gone again, turned it off again, and they were all back.

My question, why did ZoneAlarm, let it work for a few days, then started to give me problems. I know when I downloaded the second time, I didn't upgrade ZoneAlarm, but not sure about the first time.

My next question, what do I uncheck in ZoneAlarm so I don't have to turn it off every time I want to work on my album. There isn't anything in there that looks like anything to do with pictures. It sure is confusing.

Thank you, for any help you can give me. thanks.gif

I used ZoneAlarm as a Firewall for years and finally got sick of it couple months ago.

Never really had any problems with it, but the one problem I did have, as a PC gamer, the pop ups from zonealarm when a program asks for net access, will not come up over, on top of, a full screen game. In fact the moment the game trys to establish net access for the first time and the zonealarm box comes up, in the background can't even see it, it usually freezes and crashes the entire game. PC games MUST be added manually to the programs list before they're run.

Finally made the switch to Sygate free version and haven't looked back.

I use to work with websites and all were fine until I used ZA 2.26a... when I upgraded it to new versions, I had similar problems with some .jpg files.

Fortunately, I did'nt throw out the 2.26a version, so, it's what I use until today biggrin.gif

Lorraine,

Which version of ZoneAlarm are you using? Free or Pro? I have been using the Free version for years without issue. I have the Firewall set to High for the Internet Zone and Medium for the Trusted Zone. AntiVirus Monitoring is turned off (doesn't recognize AVG anyway), E-mail protection is on and Alerts and Logs is off. If you are using Pro, it has a bunch of extra stuff that has nothing to do with Firewalls and that could be the problem.

Thanks for your input xpgeek, and Chris. The first time I had the problem, I must have had the photo album so messed up, that's why ZoneAlarm wouldn't have worked anyway, but this time I didn't change a lot on the album, and when I turned ZoneAlarm off, everything in the album worked ok.

Tecumseh, I changed ZonAlarm, to the way you had yours, I even left the Internei Zone set to Medium, and it still didn't work. I have Pro5.0

I guess I'll just have to turn it off, to do any editing, until I figure out what to do.

Thanks again

Lorraine

Even though I can fix the problem with Coppermine by shutting down ZoneAlarm, I still have some problems with pictures, and graphics.

Like the one HERE, where I can't see the button above the e-mail button.

There is a Forum, where I can see small graphics, but not large ones, and another Forum, I don't have any problems at all, and there are a lot of large graphics in there. The one Forum, I can see them all on my 98 computer, but not this one, that's why I didn't think about ZoneAlarm giving me a problem with Coppermine.

Another problem, I'm having lately is, when I post an image here, I save it to 'My Pictures', and then make sure I resize it using IrfanView, when I go to post it, it says it can't upload that kind of image, and it's a 'jpg' so I go and change it to a 'gif' using Irfanview, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doean't, then I use PhotoImpact, and most of the time I just have to resave it, and it works wacko.gif

So there is something on my computer that won't let me view some images, if I only know what to look for. I tried to compare my 98 computer with this one, but not sure what I should be checking it with.. wacko.gif

Maybe it has something to do with JavaScript?

Any help would sure be appreciated smiley- yes.gif

Well I checked out Sasol's website on my 98 computer, and everything is there, and looks great, so where dose that leave me on my XP Pro. computer.

I'm ready to delete ZoneAlarm, and Norton, to see if they are causing the problems on my XP computer. What do you think?

Ah ! Here we are !

Norton shield can block images downloading if not properly set. Browse into its properties and reset configurations.

It's a common issue biggrin.gif

Lorraine,

Uninstall ZoneAlarm Pro and install the free, no frills, version. I'm not a fan of any of these program suites, sooner or later they mess things up.

Thanks Chris, but I don't think it's Norton, I don't have it running on the computer, I have to bring it up manually to scan. Norton, I only have the stand alone, not the full suite.

Thanks Tecumseh, I think ZoneAlarm does everything..not only is it blocking the Thumbnails, in my photo album, it blocks the add banners in PI..When I went to PhotoImpact Lounge Forum, where I play around with Graphics, it had banner adds all over in there..(I had ZoneAlarm disabled) When I turned it back on, the adds were all gone. blink.gif

I have to think of what to do soon, because Norton is about ready to expire soon.

I think I'll dump both, and start using the free ones.
