My DIREC TV TIVO burned out its chip. Can I rip out the hard drive and put in my computer as slave, to retrieve and save to DVD all the stored music programs. Anybody know if this stuff is encrypted or otherwise protected? The TIVO is only 11 months old...arggghhh.

Sorry to say that we cannot help you with this. Well I am not exactly sure if it is legal or not (and I lean toward "not") it is in violation of the tivo rules you agree to for the service.
