Hey all
well im looking for s wee bit of help. I have a very short (7 min) clip on a VHS which I would really like to copy to my laptop. I am however, pretty clueless at the minute how to do this. I also have access to the video camera is was recorded with if it helps.

Hi condorstats,
You will need a capture card or a "modern (advanced)" camera (which have a chip that allow you to transfer video files directly to PC - passthrough)...

Hi Condor, the card that Ironbender has mentioned can also be a part of a "TV" card that has an added TV Tuner - both types can be found at any PC or Surplus shop and normally come with enough Software to accomplish what you want.
HERE's an example of one from a Surplus Dealer that I've used a number of times - as you can see they're relatively inexpensive (The Hauppauge TV Tuner & Capture Card).

If it is for a laptop, check
THIS.
All you need is a capture device and there are many different USB ones around. I saw one a while back for around $30, but I do not know what software it came with. You will do better with one that comes with good video editing software.

Only this evening while I was waiting for service in Curry's, I was browsing and saw a number of USB TV tuner cards on sale .... you just plug them into the computer using the USB port, and the other end into anything that can create UHF (such as a video recorder) and Viola! Bob's your aunt's live-in lover!
That device you pointed out there efabes looks pretty cool though!
