I had my Computer scanned on the network and it says that I have a port opened on 515. So now I went to my office computer to post this. So now I am at a loss. The scan says that the computer has this port open but Both XP Firewall and Mcafee Personal Firewall Plus have been tested and engaged. At the same time and off/on both ways and still tested. I know it is the Printer Spooler port but I can't seem to get this closed off. I thought maybe I picked up a virus but I didnt according to the latest Virus Scan I did. All engines and data files and updates have been done to scanning engines and I also checked for Spyware through AD Aware and SB Search & Destroy...
Any ideas? And How do I close this port?
Thanks

Do you have a network printer installed?
What scan is telling you the port is open? Did you check all the settings
in Mcafee? Do they have a "stealth" mode? That is the safest setting, as all ports are hidden, not just blocked.
I am not familiar with the exact step-by-step in Mcafee, but you need to create a rule to block 515. Check the help file.

my network printer and printer monitor were also looking at some ports... have disabled all. Now, I send the document to the server via network, and print it from there.

I have no printer hooked up at all. I removed all printer set ups. What am I missing? I tried but in Mcafee, there is no way stop a certain port just to delegate the most basic ones to be open or not. There is no way to manually open this port. They should all just be closed. I wonder if this is a flaw in Mcafee? That they don't stealth this port.
Is there something I may be missing?

This seems to be a Win XP issue... mine have two open processes, that are monitoring UDP ports, no matter what I do. When I has Win 98SE, I has a perfect stealth status at GRC... now, all of my ports seems to be closed, but answering to pings, and only a few one are stealth.
I am still searching why, and trying to stealth all of them, like on my Win98SE...
Port 515 is a printer spooler port (as Efabes suggested before)... try looking for any printer spooler active process and ending it.

I would giess it is McAfee. I hate McAfee. We have it at work and I need to keep deleting some of the "idiotic" rules it "learns" or I can no longer get on my own network!
From home, Kerio and Sygate give me stealth on two systems (though with one pc I need to use port forwarding on 113 for stealth).

I am getting ready to uninstall Mcafee and install Zone Labs or something. This is getting on my nerves...
Thanks for all the help
