Hello,
I recently purchased an iDeq 200N SFF and my first AMD chip. After installation, I checked out the speed of my processor and it was only putting out around 800MHz. I went back into the bios, after flashing it with the most recent version, and set the multiplier and FSB a bit higher to get to the proper speed (not overclocking at this point). No such luck. It seems that FSB, no matter what I set it at, will cap out at 133MHz with a multiplier of 12.5. I'm not too sure about what could be causing this problem. Would this be more of an issue with the bios not supporting a mobile chip, or would something more likely be defective in the hardware? Any ideas or similar stories would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hi joyriot, welcome to SAF
Your AMD processor is for 266 FSB. You must set jumpers properly on mobo as explained below:
Mobo:

Document Number: 80005 Last Updated: 8/21/2003 Question: My motherboard is not correctly identifying the speed of my processor. Answer: Make sure you know the Frontside Bus speed of your processor and set the Frequency Selection jumper (JCLK) accordingly - 100MHz for FSB200 CPUs, 133MHz for FSB266 CPUs, etc. Also try updating the motherboard's BIOS to the latest release. |

Also, check for correct voltages and multiplier, as it seems that FSB133 is properly set. You can also contact the mobo manufacturer at http://www.biostar-usa.com/ideqdetails.asp...del=IDEQ%20200N
Hope it will help,

Edited: Just scouted around... it seems to be a common problem with this mobile processor and some motherboards... they recognized only 600 to 800 MHz
Solution in most cases (without going to dangerous overclocking) is to change the processor.

Thanks Ironbender,
I will be exchanging my CPU at the next opportunity possible. I'll update you on how things go with the new CPU.
Thanks again.

Joyriot- could you post the exact model number of the AMD mobile chip you purchased? If it is a new one, something isn't right. There is no chip currently made that I am aware of that defaults to 800 mz.

The model number is: AXMG2600FQQ4C
I also have 2 sticks of Kingston ValueRam DDR 333, model number: KVR333X64C25/512
When I reset the defaults of my bios, CPU-Z reports a core speed of ~800MHz, 6x133Mhz. Problem is, that FSB won't go any higher. I found another forum where this seems to be happening to people and they actually have to replace their bios. Not sure if this is really the case or not--wish I had another processor to check.
