Hi all, it's me again. I have XP Home. I have AOL. I use Forefox to surf but occasionally I need to use AOL to open sites. When people send me ecards, some are fine, but some, when they load, an error box pops up saying IE cannot open this site and must abort. I click off and re-open it and it works. The same goes for some sites when I use AOL. It is driving me crazy. I have run my virus scan, a-squared, Adaware, Spybot, Spyware Doctor, CWShredder, and AOL Spyware and Check up. I don't know what else to do.
Also, while I'm here, when I start my computer, the new hardward wizard pops up. I have not installed new hardware in about a year! It just started this. I get another box saying something about a windows 32 application can't open or something. It pops up and disappears so quick I can't read it. I have tried a system restore as well. Okay, I think that is all. Thanks guys! Have a great and safe July 4th! wavey.gif

Sorry, but you do not need AOHell for nothing lol.gif Firefox do the job as well or better than any AOL browser.

As you use to open e-cards, I will strongly suspect for some virus issue... unfortunately, there are a lot of false e-cards linking to malwares and viruses on the net sad.gif

Maybe you should try some housecall online virus checking... at this point, it will not hurt rolleyes.gif

I've had a similar problem with Windows XP trying to install a new hardware last day, and it was because one of my sons deleted part of the motherboard/chipset drivers... restore point does not solved... after reinstalling them, the problem disappeared. (maybe some of your drivers are corrupted)

HiYa' Tammy,

Yes, that is a strange problem. To start, I suggest that you run a HiJack This log and post it in our malware forum HERE.

You can download Hi Jack This free from HERE. Just click on the download button on the left.

HiJack This does not install on your system - it is a TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident) program. Create a separate folder in explore and name it aaHiJack This; now it will show up directly under the C drive in Explore where it is easy to find. You can rename and move it later if you wish. Move HiJack This into this forlder and unzip it.

Double click on HT and it opens; now close all open windows except for HT, and click "Do A System Scan and Save A Log". HT automatically opens notepad with the log, and you just save it to your desktop. Open it, hilight it all and save to clipboard. Paste it in the Malware Forum linked above with a few words explaining the problem you are having, and an expert will be along to help you.

At least this for sure will either confirm or eliminate the question of spyware causing your problems.

Another very good and effective free online virus scan is Panda ActiveScan. It scans and also removes problems.

Must be run in IE, as it uses ActiveX.

Thanks everyone. I just sent my Hijack log to the Malware forum. See any nasties let me know. Just be very clear and simple. I am still in preschool when it comes to computers. Like I said, I use FF to surf but I use AOL for mail and stuff. Once in a while I use AOL to go to a site for one reason or another. It just started doing this. I have never liked IE. Thanks again!

I forgot. How do I stop the new hardware wizard from popping up?

Hi Tammy,

as I said you before, new hardware pops because some existent hardware has a corrupted or missing driver... you need to let it begin install in order to see what kind of hardware it is... then, you'll need to provide the drivers.

Maybe a checkdisk can also repair something... rolleyes.gif

Well I tried that once and it told me I needed to install disk.
