Hi,

I was thinking of setting up a home network.
I have two PC's both with XP Home on them. A friend tells me that it is impossible to get PC's with XP Home to communicate with each other or with any server with XP Pro on it.
He advises upgrading the PC's to XP PRo.

Can anyone advise if my friend is correct ?
Also what are the functional differences between XP Home and XP Pro. ?
What do I lose or gain between Home and Pro.?

I am loath to buy the new OS licences as I have bought the PC's working now under Home.

Regards
MJ

I'm not sure what problems your friend encountered but I've found XP Home or Pro to be equally easy to network. If you also want internet connectivity for both computers as well, I'd recommend using a cable/dsl router to accomodate both the LAN & WAN requirements.

Hey Alfons

I really don't know what your friend talking about.
I have 3 PC's, sharing one internet connection using D-Link router
All 3 of then running under WIN XP Home.
As long as their all under the same workgroup,
their shouldn't be any problem to connect then
I can surf, share files and printer, play online games inside the network,
And games on the internet (Online Poker, Online Backgammon etc')

All you need is a good router that will do the work, that's it...

Hi SimpleJohn, welcome to SAF biggrin.gif

The question was from mjames... my network is most significant, I think, because we have a Win98SE 13 years old P2 400 acting as internet server, 3 XP pro, 2 XP home and another Win98SE, all working fine 24 x 7 sing.gif
