I am having some problems installing a new graphics card in my computer. The card is an ATI Radeon 9200. I am able to install the card and the software that comes bundled with the card, however after the computer reboots after the install the resolution of my screen is set to a very low resolution. When I attempt to set the resolution the computer restarts, and the resolution stays the same.
Also when I attempt to run a game the computer restarts.
Any help here would be appreciated.

Hi zephon, welcome to SAF
Have you the latest motherboard and proper monitor drivers installed ?
Is your OS Windows XP, and have you the latest service pack installed ?

My OS is XP, and I do have the latest service pack installed. I got the computer about a year or so ago, and Im not sure about the motherboard and whether or not it is the latest. However since the PC is only a year or so old I am assuming it is pretty recent at the least. The card is an AGP card and I have AGP drivers installed on the computer.
Thanks for the welcome as well.

Ok. I still suspect drivers issues.
Is your onboard video disabled at BIOS setup ?
You may try to download and install the latest motherboard/chipset drivers at your mobo's website (a year is a long time on today's evolution).
You can download the latest Radeon/catalyst drivers from
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default...dge&folderID=27Be sure to create a restore point before installing them, just in case something went wrong.
Maybe someone else have another thought ?

Ok how would I go about disabling the onboard video?

It is somewhere on your BIOS settings... don't know exactly where, because it may change from one make to another...
If it's enabled, this may be the cause of conflicts with your AGP card.
You cas also see if, at your <control panel/System/Hardware/device Manager> there are no conflicts...

There is no need for that. I just got it working. It was the driver issues that you mentioned. I downloaded and installed the latest drivers from ATI and Intel and I am happy to say that I am now experiencing UT2004 in full graphical glory and it is sweet.
Thank you very much for your help.
Now Im off to play UT2004!
Thanks again!

zephon.. glad you got your video working. I might strongly suggest that when you have time, check out whether you have integrated video on the mainboard or not, and if you do, definitely go in and disable it from the BIOS. If you don't one day it may start to give you conflict problems. For now the boot bath is set to your video card, but sometimes circumstances can change that, especially if the original default is set to your mainboard video.
