hi I am new to this forum and I know alot about computers.
Anyway, I have a Pioneer A 05 and It used to burn stuff on dvd-r and I used to watch dvds but now It only burns cd-r and plays cd. My burner doesn't burn dvd-r or even plays dvd - roms. I asked my freind what it could be and he said it might be the firmware so I searched for it and I found version 1.33, by the way The current version I have now is version 1.00. I installed the new version 1.33 and says installation complete but when I restart my computer the version is still 1.00 and the dvd burner still doesn't detect any dvd roms.
Anyone have any answers or suggestions on why my burner is not detecting any dvd rom, by the way I put it on 2 different computers and I am use windows xp on both, it used to work on windows xp alsoand on one of the computers.
thanks

Welcometo SAF.
Optical drives use different channels for cd's and dvd's. Sounds like the one for dvd has failed/burned out. That could have affected the firmware install.

Hi coopdalove, welcome to SAF
The micro that runs that "firmware" may have malfunctioned. If that's the problem, the cheapest way to fix it would be to get another unit, they're not really made to be fixed.

Try Newegg.com, they are very reputable and have good prices.

It sounds like your firmware didn't actually update ... were you doing the updating from DOS ? (ie. DOS bootdisk?)
Probably is a goosed drive though. The extra DVD lasers might have a problem, which would explain why CDs work ok
