hi all

I was just wondering if i really need any RAM defraging/optimizing software for my computer. Cud anyone help me with this
Alfons
The RAM is "defraged" every time you shut the power off - nothing is retained in Dynamic Memory, which is why you have "save cycles" on many applications like word processors etc so that if the power dies, you haven't lost your document in total.

I haven't tried any recent "memory optimizers" but in the past, the time it took for the optimization manager to do it's work normally slowed the system quite noticably.

Alfons is right. I've tried some with no such improvements. Today I just use AnalogX MaxMem just to clean old memories, as my system is 24x7 on.

!! Good Question Joe !!

And answered well by mr. Petri:

(( Windows will always try to find some use for all of RAM — even a trivial one. If nothing else it will retain code of programs in RAM after they exit, in case they are needed again. Anything left over will be used to cache further files — just in case they are needed. But these uses will be dropped instantly should some other use come along. Thus there should rarely be any significant amount of RAM ‘free’. That term is a misnomer — it ought to be ‘RAM for which Windows can currently find no possible use’. The adage is: ‘Free RAM is wasted RAM’. Programs that purport to ‘manage’ or ‘free up’ RAM are pandering to a delusion that only such ‘Free’ RAM is available for fresh uses. That is not true, and these programs often result in reduced performance and may result in run-away growth of the page file. ))

Bottom line !!!
Use some of these small utilities if you just have to have one BUT then what are you going to do about all the mem pages caught in your pagefile...?

Adjust or play with your page file if you must........ but spending (more time) on cleaning up and preventing these spyware nasties would be better time spent.

Good Post...............cotnightjoe !! smiley- yes.gif
