both computers identical, one works on internet through broadband
modem and router, the other works only thru usb cable to modem,
if connected to router thru ethernet cable freezes, both using xp pro
whats the problem?

Assuming that's not a LAN setting issue, are you sure you are using the correct cable to the router ? If you mix crossover and paralel cables, weird things can happen...

Try to use the cable from the other comp on that what is freezing, just to see if it's it...
