I am a relative newbie at the computer building. I recently finished my second "normal" computer build. I installed an AMD Sempron 3100 and got to looking at all the comments on the ability to overclok this CPU and decided to try one out. As I am not a wealthy person, I decided to try the overclocking out on a cheaper CPU rather than ruin a newer one. If all goes well on this one, I will try it out on a better one. I realize that heat is a major problem and i want to have my ###### covered in case something goes terribly wrong.

I have several choices as which comp to use.

1. A Hp Pav 7920 with an Intel Celeron at 902 MHZ w 384 RAM (256 and a 128....cant get two 256's to work.help)

2. Comp Presario 5000

3. Hp Vectra VEi8

If someone could lend a few suggestions as to which to use, any tips, or things to look for that would really help. Like I said, I know the basics, but I just need some help to get started. I'm not looking at getting ungoddly Benchmarks or anything like that. I just want to play with the whole overclocking and practice at raising cpu speed.

This is greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you

Hi Moonpie665, welcome to SAF

Personally, I do not recommend overclocking, I think it's cheaper to have a better machine than forcing one beyond limits, but, like with cars, some will try to do that as a "sport" rolleyes.gif

If you Google "overclocking" around, you'll find many resources on this matter, like http://www.overclockers.com/ or http://www.extremeoverclocking.com/ but I can not recommend any of them, because I do not use it.

Maybe Efabes and other people here can help you on that... just wait for more skilled advices.
